Nestled in the country roads of Birkin (Sleepy Hollow) in North Yorkshire, St Mary’s stands proudly on the corner of Intake and Birkin Lane.

Being a Grade I listed building, the church dates from around 1149, holding an exceptional interest for the preservation of history and culture of the area.

In 2010, author Henry Farrar wrote a book titled “Sleepy Hollow?” which chronicles the surrounding area, containing a wealth of historic information relating to the church and the village itself. Copies of the book are sold within the church and further discussions of the history of the church and surrounding area under our history section.

We hold regular services throughout the year – the highlight being our candlelit Carol Service just before Christmas.
